In March of 2022, I completed a 5k run, even though I did not train for it. I had been walking about 4.5 miles per day on average for the past year, so I figured that was close enough and I would give the 5k a shot.
Lesson learned! There is a HUGE difference between walking and running! But to my surprise, I finished the race in 33 minutes.
I took a day or two to recover from the run and then I went back to walking my same daily routes. It occurred to me that I could start training so that I would be more prepared the next time a 5k opportunity came along. So I began running at least one of my daily miles, then increased by a half mile each week.
It’s been over a month now and I still have come nowhere near running 3 miles in 33 minutes. It made me question how on Earth I was ever able to make this run time in the first place.
Then I thought about the 5k itself. It was hosted by a faculty member at my daughter’s school who had recently lost her child. She hosted the 5k as a beautiful tribute to her daughter. Everyone in attendance seemed to be light and happy, embracing life and filled with joy. There were social groups, children, teachers and parents, all joined under the umbrella of compassion and support.
When we actually started running, I paced myself with a group who ultimately finished ahead of me, but I kept them in sight. (I also remember asking the ancestors to send me some help because this was way harder than I thought it would be). I remember seeing a mother and daughter running together and talking light-heartedly. I saw another man and his friend encouraging each other to keep going. The running path was lined with security cars, each attended by an officer, and every single officer clapped and cheered us on.
I was surrounded by people united under a common goal, and I believe it propelled me into greater focus and drive. It was indeed the momentum of the crowd that pushed me forward.
Intentionally surrounding yourself with people who share your desire for greatness can propel you ahead by quantum leaps. They help to cultivate the energetic field and vibration necessary for your success. Those flashes of encouraging smiles or simple words of support are invaluable to the overall journey.
Don’t be afraid to ask yourself if the people closest to you are creating an environment of momentum or of stagnation. Don’t be afraid to ask yourself if you are being supportive of the people around you. This presents an opportunity to show compassion to yourself and others by creating an intention of being supportive and of propelling yourself and others to greatness. The external world makes it easy to lose focus on our high-vibration qualities, but it only takes a change in perspective to get back on track with greater momentum.
And so it is.
