Burnout can leave us feeling as though we have run out of options. We have given everything we have, and there simply is nothing left. It becomes difficult to feel happiness or joy as we struggle to find meaning in a life that seems to be trapped on a hamster wheel. We feel like a cog dedicated to making the machine work, even when nothing seems to be working for us.

By chance (or force) we come to a rare moment of mental respite and realize that something needs to change. We have been doing the same things for so long that we have no idea what we really want to do with our lives. We have no idea how to make ourselves happy. We don’t know what to do.
Not knowing what to do can be extremely uncomfortable, because doing “something” is all we know. Our lives are filled with busyness such as working, figuring, sponsoring, going, providing and deciding. So landing in the spot of not knowing can propel us into numerous distractions. We may engage yet another new hobby, take a new class, or plan a career change. We may defer to habits such as overeating or mindless social media scrolling for relief from the discomfort of not knowing what to do next. Indulging these distractions gives us short-term fulfillment but ultimately lead to more doing.

Finding the courage to sit still inside the “not knowing” gives way to knowing who we want to be in the present and who we long to become over time. We discover that not doing makes space for a clear picture of the being within that wants a chance to express herself. Maybe we want to be flexible and available to the beauty of the present moment. Maybe want to be more connected with nature. Perhaps we want to be centered in love and health, kindness and compassion in a way that inspires others.

But these are not things we can do. They are the states of being waiting for the chance to express themselves and fill our lives with meaning. We make space for these expressions by embracing the courage to do less.
We recognize the arrival of refreshed knowing by feelings of love, peace and fulfillment, and we take small steps in the direction these feelings until we are filled with the things we want from life.

Healing Affirmations
Here are a few affirmations to invite our innate power of Being into full expression:
- I am available to the expressions of joy resting within my soul
- I surrender to the knowing emerging from not knowing
- I am centered in love
You are seen. You are heard. You are understood. You are valuable.
It is released.
